Cabinet Painting FAQs in the First Coast

Will painted cabinets hold up in a humid Jacksonville kitchen?

Yes, when they are prepped and finished correctly. The failure point on painted cabinets is almost always prep, greasy contact areas, glossy factory finishes, or old lacquer that a new coating cannot bite into. Our cabinet crews on the First Coast degrease with a dedicated cleaner, sand to break the sheen, prime with a bonding primer, and spray a waterborne alkyd enamel like Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane or Benjamin Moore Advance that cures to a hard, washable film built for the humidity of a Northeast Florida kitchen.

Do you paint both the cabinet doors and the boxes?

Yes, we finish doors, drawer fronts, and the visible boxes so the entire kitchen reads consistent from every angle. Doors and drawer fronts come off the boxes, get numbered, and are sprayed off-site or in a controlled area of the home. Boxes are hand-finished on site with the same product and sheen so the seams disappear when everything is reassembled.

How long does cabinet painting take in a First Coast home?

A typical Jacksonville-area kitchen takes 5 to 10 working days from teardown to walk-through, depending on the number of doors, whether the boxes need extra prep, and how many coats the color requires. You will lose access to the kitchen for part of that window, but we time the schedule so appliances remain usable when possible. Our project manager gives you a day-by-day plan at the estimate so there are no surprises.

Can you match a specific color or brand for my cabinets?

Absolutely, we spray cabinets in any Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, or PPG color, and we can color match from a chip, a sample door, or a competing brand. Popular cabinet colors on the First Coast right now include soft whites (Alabaster, White Dove), warm greiges (Accessible Beige, Revere Pewter), deep coastal blues (Naval, Hale Navy), and moody greens (Iron Ore, Rockport Gray, Green Smoke). We also do two-tone kitchens with a different color on the island.

What should I look for on my cabinets before deciding to paint them?

Painted or refinished cabinets have to start with solid boxes and doors, so check for delamination on thermofoil or laminate doors, loose panel joints on shaker fronts, water damage under the sink, and hinges or slides that are already failing. Solid wood, MDF, and factory-painted cabinets are ideal candidates for cabinet painting on the First Coast. Heavily damaged thermofoil kitchens or particleboard boxes swollen from leaks are usually better candidates for door replacement or full cabinet replacement, and we will tell you honestly during the free estimate.

Do you handle the hardware and appliances during cabinet painting?

Yes, our cabinet crews remove and label every door, drawer front, hinge, pull, and knob at the start of the project, and reinstall everything at the end. If you are upgrading hardware, this is the moment to do it, we can drill for new pull layouts, fill and refinish old holes, and coordinate with your hardware order. Appliances get masked and protected in place, and any that need to move are handled by our team.

How much does cabinet painting cost in the Jacksonville area?

Cabinet painting on the First Coast typically runs from about $3,500 for a small kitchen up to $8,000 or more for a large kitchen with an island, glass fronts, and a butler's pantry, well below the cost of replacement cabinets. Price depends on the number of doors, condition of the existing finish, color choice, and whether you are updating hardware. Every cabinet estimate is written line by line so you can see exactly what is included.
